What you have been told is partially correct. The 4001 mags were throw aways
and had (i think) a certain hour of operation limitation. However, the 402X
are the replacements and can be repaired. If yours are the 4001 and are still
working good and your AP says they are ok, one would expect they are ok to
continue to use, but you should take the AP's word not mine.

I heard something today that surprised me. My airplane is undergoing
an annual and I was told that it had the "old" Slick 4000 series mags
and that they were "crap" and only would last about 400-500 hours
before they failed. The mags look new and were installed during an
engine overhaul and the engine has about 60 hours on it.
Is there something to this or not?
