Thanks Jerry. I did ask the question specifically about Sport Pilot
certification. Here is a copy of the question:

I am a Sport Pilot student that owns an Ercoupe 415-C without rudder
pedals. My local DPE says that I will have a limitation on my Sport
Pilot certificate that prevents me from operating any aircraft that
has rudder pedals (2-control vs. 3-control). My research seems to
indicate that there is some historical precedence set for this many
years ago when the Ercoupe was first introduced to general aviation.
However there is considerable "tribal knowledge" that indicates that
getting a checkride in an Ercoupe without rudder pedals does not
always result in this "Ercoupe limitation."

My question is relative to the FAR. What regulation stipulates that
students flying aircraft without rudder pedals during their
checkride will be limited to flying aircraft without rudder pedals
until they are able to remove the restriction?
