I'm getting my numbers from a manual put out by Univair. It's titled:
Ercoupe - Specifications, AD Notes, and STCs pages 2 through 6
I weighed the plane (about three times with less than 10 lbs variation) and
found it was very heavy. (952.8 lbs not 841 lbs as presented in a 1948 Weight
and Balance Form that came with the plane) The above booklet provided some
explanation of where the weight MAY have come from. Another possibility is
that I'm not reading the scales correctly. You can bet I'll be getting a
second more official opinion on that one real quick and I sure hope I screwed
up and you all will be the first to know if I did.
Meanwhile, for over two years, the bird is very reluctant to get above 9000' DA
and THAT, my low flying friends, is field elevation here in Denver when the
temp is 85 or so. It makes touch and goes with full tanks very interesting and
bringing a passenger along out of the question.
The range of responses to my original question included a few weight numbers
from sources that I respect that were in the range of my bird. Therefore, I
still think it would be very wise for potential Sport Pilots to weigh the
415C/D 'coupe they're thinking of buying before they put down any hard cash.
