Jim -

You only need the transponder check. The pitot/static check is required for
IFR only.

You may not turn on a transponder with Mode C unless it has had the 24 month
check. You have to placard it as inop and leave it turned off.

  Subject: [ercoupe-tech] Transponder Check

My Ercoupe is due its 24 month transponder/ static check this month. I
fly in the Washington DC ADIZ but always under Class B. I also fly into
Class C airspace. I was told there are 2 types of checks. One is for a
VFR transponder check wich correlates the altitude readout with the
transponder. The other is a full static check for IFR certification
  which I do not need.

In contacting 2 avionic shops one said they never heard of the 24 month
transponder check and they do the full static check for $ 200. The
other shop said they did both.
$ 197 for the VFR check and $ 250 for the full static check. In reading
some threads on the AOPA Forums I see some have listed Transponder
checks for only $ 45. Could someone clear this up for me ?
