Gary, I'm using a Sporty's SP200 handheld with great success. It is connected to the aircraft antenna. I have a generic intercomm and a push to talk switch on the yoke. Occasionally it doesn't communicate with nearby planes but I suspect it is antenna orientation. The other day I questioned a nearby pilot on his choice of using runway 36 when the runway was actually 01. I was surprised to learn that he was 70 miles away and using their 36. I am of the opinion that panel mounted and handhelds transmit the same amount of power. Mike @KDLL
