I used to have a set up like Ed had but I loosened the two top screws of 
an instrument I seldom used, wrapped a stiff wire between them and 
slipped the belt clip over it.  Used with the external antenna, you will 
get excellent range.  Or, you can mount an external BNC connector on top 
of the cockpit, (behind your head)   add a short length of coax,and 
plug  the portable antenna  in there.       Bill Coons
