Most importantly, check the airworthiness certificate. If it still says 415-C and was issued in the 40s or early 50s you are probably in the clear. The FAA has a definite proceedure for changing the model designation on the Airworthiness certificate and if it wasn't followed it remains a 415C. ( have letter from FAA to that effect)
