Take note that Mike Sellers said they would urge any AD put special emphasis, "that any AD that results from this matter needs to require compliance with existing Ercoupe Service Bulletins 57, 58 and 58A." (Actually Service Memoranda)
Perhaps information discussed in that meeting brought out evidence from the accident of fabric separation and/or collapse of the spar extension. The preliminary accident report did mention a bunch of paint chips flying free from the aircraft along with inspection hole covers. My thought is that even if neither of those things happened in this accident, having AD emphasis on those service memoranda would not be bad for continued health of the fleet and the safety of the pilots and passengers. It's too easy for an AI to miss something like this buried in the Service Memoranda and Bulletins which the owner may not even possess. I wonder what other Memoranda and Bulletins contain items that should have mandatory compliance every annual. Ed
