I had a similar problem a few months back. I ended up taking off the fuel
valve that is just under the Header tank and taking it apart and cleaning it
out and polishing the insides of the valve and then putting some really great
grease that is not effected by gas and then putting it back together and
re-installing the fuel valve. I have had no problems since that. I can tell
you that you will need to heat up the cap that holds the fuel valve together to
get it off. I used a propane bottle torch and it came right off. Don't melt
it, just get it hot. Put the valve in a vice and use vice grips to remove the
cap. That should work. Jerry with a 415G in the Great Northwest.

I was out practicing my Ercoupe taxi skills today since I am not checked out
yet to fly (tomorrow the CFI is scheduled). Sure was tempting to just make a
circuit or two without a BFR or checkout when nobody was really watching.
Anyhow, I turned on the fuel to start, turned it off when I was at the fuel
pumps refueling, back on to start again, the valve acted quite normal. When I
got back to the hangar, the darned fuel valve would not shut off! It seems to
be locked in the on position, I used a lot of force even, still no turn off!
Has anyone else had such a problem with the fuel shutoff valve?
