I had considered that, but as I understand, the valve is a tapered valve in a tapered seat. I was worried that I would perhaps score the seat or valve and ruin it. On the other hand, nothing that hard should be in the valve anyway! In the parts manual, it indicates that is a valve AND STRAINER, so maybe nothing can get caught in there anyway.
