Donald,
I experienced the same problem with one of the coupes I owned. Even after
removing the entire assembly, it was impossible to separate the two pieces. I
put a bunch of different stuff in it to free them up and nothing worked. I
then used copious amounts of heat and still didn't work. Tried compressing
them just a bit to break them free. Absolutely nothing worked. If you have an
extra pair and can remove the top, I'd use the spare pair. Unless you are sure
the spare pair are in perfect condition, I'd disassemble them, hone the
cylinders, install the modification with the brake cups and then install them.
Just a suggestion.
Lee

I had been using your web instruction posting. Although I hate to ruin the MLG
housing, I have a spare set so will not be a big problem. Since it is stuck
compressed, I can see no place to get penetrant into the rusted area, but am
going back out and squirt some this evening just in case it will work. I assume
the rust is along the entire length of the piston, an awful lot to break loose,
and about inpossible to get penetrant the entire distance. I may try a torch on
the bottom portion to see if it will enlarge a bit and maybe break loose.
