>How many J size PS printers are there ?
Actually, quite a few. I was maintained Pen plotters back in
the late 80s/early 90s.
It was my writing a Postsctipt interpreter that gave me the in
at apple. Actually what I wrote was a PS vector to HPGL translator.

So I have often kept my ear to the ground so to speak.

The main issue is these are aimed at a Bechtel class customers.

Most of the Xerox class manufactues have had these in develeoment,
just waiting for a Bechtel to fund the R&D. I was working on
such myself at places like EFI and Apple. Usually though someone
runs the numbers and the project is first to get the axe. The
paper costs alone are horrendous. Paper is heavy and the mill
sells it by the ton. It shows
up like a sore thumb to the accountatnts.
Only a printer with a web press can afford such. So it
becomes a "Digital" press. And your moringin newspaper
is printed by such.
So the market becomes Chiat, Day and Co and the customer
The New York Times. Trust me this has been my boom and
bust for 20 years. (and guess what the web has done to
the web based heildelburg press based industry) pun intended
but I will probably have to explain it.

<*sigh*>
I really am being paid here in Kenucky to write softwarefor Player
pianos.

True story. I sold the only 10 Lisa Computers that were ever
sold in the east Bay.
They were sold to BART at almost full retail. (Which by the way
was the same as a fully
loaded apple //e with hard drive.)

BART was ramping up for the expansion. (This was in the 1983
timeframe.) They asked who had
the best urban transit system. The London Tube was the obvious
answer. So they went and got a team
of Brits. (who probaby were in charge of the Graffiti removal.)
Then gave them a whole load of
cash. Boy those Brits had a lot of fun covering the wall of their
Oakland office with PERT Charts
Generated with LisaPlot. This was where I first heard the expression
that in "100 mile hour wind
even Turkeys can fly."

Later there was a whole investigation on this waste of the seed
money. There was an election and
BART got the prez of the US to fund an entierly new program so
in the future he could visit his
daughters college. (More likeley so as a private citizan he could
make the stanford lecture circut
from SFO.)
