Hi ...
There's a very interesting article over on SpaceDaily about testemony
given to the Columbia Accident Investigation Board by Robert Thompson,
the Shuttle Program Manager from 1970 - 1981. A lot of the early
claims were completely bogus
Well, we kind of knew that; it's obvious, but the fact that they admit
that knew that, and lied about it to that degree was new to me.
and a lot of the design and performance
limitations don't seem to be part of the current NASA methodology.
I think It's very normal for institutions to forget stuff that was
blindingly obvious during the design phase, the guys that designed
something are the only ones that really see the whole picture (if then),
but it does suggest some level of devolution going on in NASA.

This could conceivably destroy the Shuttle program, and NASA is going to
lose a tonne of credibility; and it wasn't exactly in credit to start
with. I think this is worse than the report; unless I've missed
something in the report. Yow.
