Only thing I'd add to some excellent points mentioned so far is Dual
Processors.  The ECS D6VAA board can support two 1 Ghz processors and comes
with a built in IDE Raid controller and can handle 3 512 RAM slots for a
total of 1.5 gig ram.  This will out perform even the fastest P4s when you
consider the multi threading available with the dual set up.  And the
motherboard is less than 80 bucks!!!!

Hmm..Windows XP has been nothing but a pleasant experience for me. Including
its ability to handle my scanner so much more efficiently with its native
drivers/software than Windows 98 + the crappy HP software (that I was forced
to use with win98) could.

I'm guessing this varies alot from one device to another though. Oh well,
we're pushing the limits of on-topic here, so I'll stop my winxp discussion
here.
