This doesn't really sound like a power supply problem to me.
Issue at hand -- Motherboard unexpectedly halts, then re-boots. This can be
caused by any of the following internal faults: RAM memory error, CPU checksum
error, PCI bus error, etc. The #1 cause of an unexpected motherboard halt is
a borderline failing RAM module.
Personally, what *I* would do in your situation is to pull all the RAM memory
DIMMs out of the motherboard. And replace it with one known-to-be-good RAM
DIMM from another computer. Then run the machine and see if your problem
goes away.
There is one other possible workaround... go into "Setup/Configuration/BIOS"
screen (depending on type of motherboard, you will accomplish this either by
hitting the DEL key at power-up time, or maybe the F10 key, or maybe some
other key combination... the exact key sequence will usually be indicated
somewhere on the very first screen that appears at power-up.) Once you have
figured out how to get into the Setup/Config screen, you will need to hunt
through the menus to locate a configurable option that give you options such
as "Halt On All Errors" / "Halt On All Errors Except Disk/Keyboard" / "Ignore
Errors" Change this setting to "Ignore All Errors" or "Never Halt" or
something like that. Beware, this is a last-ditch option. Errors may be
manifested at the hardware layer which will not be trapped by the BIOS layer,
thus, your software may experience freaky unexplainable errors. But heck, at
least it's a little better than having the computer shut down unexpectedly.
hope this helps, have a nice day :-)
