ATA is just a standard. PATA = IDE, yes there's still plenty of
IDE drives. SATA comes in a few flavors just as PATA does. SATA
I & II, drives with TCQ, NCQ and no CQ.

Could be a bad controller on your motherboard as well. If one
drives works fine on one port use those cables and that port to
test the other drive. Powermax is available in ISO format on
Maxtor's site and does support SATA drive *BUT* not on certain
Via and Nforce chipsets.

Fry's is only good if you know exactly what you want and have no
expectations of returning there any time soon. With that in
mind, I've made plenty of purchases there. Usually without the
help of a sales goon. (They're only good for fetching parts
anyway). I always get a laugh out of what sales people tell
customers there and what those customers assume. I try my
hardest to not help too many people when I'm there.

That be all,
Mr O.
