I had this same thing happen when I first put together the Mazda truck .
couldn't find the problem and it just went away.  here are some thoughts
pot box / dirt so the thing isn't turning all the way off (which is on ) and
the mic switch is engaging while still a few ohms on pot

do you have a risistor to keep the controller caps chargered?
