Every VW rabbit/golf transaxle I have ever taken apart has the black
slime in it. Which means the second transaxle might be fine. I don't
know much about Prestolite motors, but if it doesn't have a cooling fan
(like an external blower) then it might be a good idea, regardless of
the transmission selection.
