To be fair, how those batteries were treated needs to be factored in.
If we went by your first set or two of lead acid batteries as a guide
then we would think that lead acid doesn't last very long. I would not
be surprised if most lithium packs dying in a short time were
murdered/abused. That is not to say they weren't run within spec
because the spec might not actually be correct for long battery life.
I'm suspicious that many packs are over charged and undersized. That
is partially why I went with a 200Ah pack in my Gizmo. The max current
my controller can pull is still only 2.5C which is under the rating of
my 11/2009 TS cells.

BTW, no balancing since 7/2011 and still no measurable drift between
cells. That is only 20,053Ah delivered over 9013 miles on this 2p20s
pack.
