This is a problem with a lot of new cars because the rollover protection has had to be beefed up over time, which means that the pillars have all had to be made larger and more robust.

This has nothing to do with whether it is an EV or not.

It's not a matter of taking the trouble to look sooner. In order to see the
crosswalk from this particular approach, I need to lean to the right (driver
sits on the left) to roughly the center of the vehicle in order to see
around the pillar. That is sometimes awkward to do while negotiating
traffic and obstructions.

I believe you also have Leaf? Have you not observed this when turning
right? The pillar is substantially larger than on other cars. All cars
have this problem to some degree, but I've never seen anything as extreme as
with the Leaf.

I doubt there's much Nissan can do to fix existing Leafs. But over the last
few years, they could address the design for new models.

Dear Peri,

I am assuming this pedestrian was not beamed down onto the crossing and
that, had you taken the trouble to look sooner, you might have seen them on
the pavement about to step onto the crossing and adjusted your progress or
made use of your horn if already too close as appropriate. 'Vision up!' as
we in the driving game say here in the UK.

On your second point, I'm not quite sure what you expect Nissan to do about
you problems. They an't exactly recall all their Leafs and move the
pillars.

If you are considering a Leaf, be forewarned that the frontal visibility

poor. Today, probably for the third time, I came close to hitting a

Somehow, the design of the front pillars obstructs an entire crosswalk
while
turning left.

Normally, I lean over to the right to get a second look, but I didn't this
time and -sure enough - a ped was in the crosswalk. Fortunately, as I
progressed through the turn, he became visible - directly in my path.

This is a serious problem with Nissan seems uninterested in addressing.
