Hi Michael, Rush and All,

I'm doing a solar powered one now to move on when my house sells.
Heavy old style wood boats are not the best choice for EV use unless they are
racer./fast types that just needs 4 -10 mile range to get out to sailing area
and later coming back to the dock.

If the boat is a very good sailboat it works as you are mostly
sailing.  Also you can use sailing power to recharge the batteries from the
spinning prop.

Best EV boats are light trailer sailers that need little power to
move and can hold decent battery weight without a problem. longer and
leaner/canoe style  are best as the most eff thus why mine is a 34' trimaran.
It'll have both EV motor and tidal generator and wind generator though they are
really doing life testing. Eventually I'l put up 1kw of PV to run everything
including the A/C needed to survive the summer.

So no lack of  electric power plus a gasoline DC generator from my
lightweight EV 's range extender.

Rush you can have him email me with details of the boat for a better
idea if it's viable.  I use forklift motors and contactor controllers as  3
speeds and reverse is enough for much lower costs. Though if regen// tidal
power is wanted a PM or AC motor needs to be used but they are not that
expensive anymore.

My body no longer allows me to do that kind of  bending work but
happy to help with advice..  It takes me 4-8x's the time to do things as I use
to. but with good planning I can still do things, just takes longer.

Jerry Dycus (on this list) lives in Florida, has experience building boats from
scratch and builds electric vehicles as well. I don’t know if he’s ever
actually built an electric boat, He may be worth getting in touch with anyway.
