I have plenty of Prius nimh modules, both the older and newer versions. The studs and nuts on them are magnetic, so they are probably steel. Both are plated with something. The interconnecting strips are plated copper.
The plated surface is a dull silver. I don't know, but my guess is that they are both nickel plated (that is typical for nicads).
Old Prius modules do leak. The electrolyte eventually eats through the plating on the copper strips, exposing the underlying copper which then corrodes badly. But it is rare to see the corrosion eat through the plating on the stud or nut.
