I agree with Martin and Chris. Hugely oversizing the pack to get the 
same range as ICEs does not make sense when your garage is your gas 
station. You're paying more for batteries, and hauling around extra 
weight, which lowers performance and efficiency to no purpose.

Electric cars are ideal commuter vehicles; cheap, efficient, and clean. 
Daily commutes generally have a short repeatable driving pattern, and 
cost is more important than range. People don't commute in Ferraris or 
Teslas; they do it in Toyotas and Hondas that are far more cost effective.

We already know how to build efficient EVs that get 200 wh/mile or 
better. With such a car, you don't need an exotic expensive battery pack 
to get your daily range. A 20 KWh pack (half the size of the smallest 
Tesla) would still give you a 100 mile range.
