The 40kW Tesla battery was a larger battery "software limited". I suspect the
physical volume requires a minimum pack size as the packs are swappable out and
probably standardized. I look at the "skateboard" (battery, wheels, suspension,
steering) and see a distinct possibility of simply a different chassis dropped
on. A modular vehicle

Yes people do commute in daft cars - but very few.

Don't get me wrong - if people have the want/need to spend their money on a
long range-capable EV let them.  I'd just rather have the option to buy a
lovely car like the Model S but not have to deal with the niggling thought that
I'm paying maybe $20k more than I need to.  Who (except the sort of person
likely to own a Ferrari) would?  And then there's the efficiency thing.  If you
don't need all that battery weight why waste energy hauling it around all the
time?   I don't imagine a smaller pack would cost T much to implement and nor
do I see why it could not be made to work with the SuperCharger - the 40kWh car
was never going to be SuperCharger-compatible for some reason.
