Are you guys talking about the low profile studs or the high auto post with imbedded stud? The last set of batteries where the Trojans with low profile studs. According to the specifications, these are to be tighten to 65 inch pounds. Installing existing lug type links, these low profile studs started to pull out at the initial installation.
Call the Trojan Co. and they had them converted to the high auto post with at top stud. Used a heavy duty zinc plated battery clamp tighten to 75 inch lbs. These can be tighten to 95 to 105 inch pounds. Also install a SS washer, lock washer and nut on the stud and tighten to 100 inch lbs which applies more internal pressure to the battery clamp. After driving for about 5 miles at 75 battery amps which is 200 motor amps, it is common for them to lose about 5 inch pounds because the two lead contact surfaces will melt back or which is known as shrink back. Re torque again. My batteries are now U.S. Battery with the auto stud post and use the same method of battery link installation back in 2009, Sept 4th. No problems of any kind. Have 3111 discharge cycles to 80 to 90 SOC. My batteries have studs, but I use Belleville washers under the nut rather than lock washers.
