The dealer says the battery has at least one failed cell. We don't know how
accurate that evaluation is.

Edmund's estimates the private sale value of a 2012 Leaf SV with 60k miles
in average condition as $4,509. An SL would be worth $263 more.

Assuming Beth's car's rust isn't structural and that the battery failure is
the only mechanical problem, taking Jay's $2,500 number for a used battery,
and allowing $500 for repair labor, we get a value of about $1,500.

Seems awfully low.

I don't know how much the recent repairs would add to that. They're normal
maintenance on a 60k car, not improvements. Stilll, you'd think they'd be
worth something, if only the tires. Maybe a couple hundred?

So depending on model (SV or SL), and how much the buyer values the recent
repairs, I get an approximate value range of $1,500 to $2,000. Still seems
on the low side.

But again, I'm not a pro. And one non-running, won't-power-up Leaf did go
for $2650 on Ebay. So maybe that's the benchmark.

And that's a possible plan - put it on Ebay at $3k, with best-offer ticked,
and see what you get. A 12-photo listing there will cost $25.

One of the problems with modern society is that it places
more importance on things that have a price than on things
     that have a value.
