I think I understand it. Asking the question "which will you be" in
the MW experiment is ambiguous because "you" is duplicated. One can
quite reasonably say that neither the M-man or the W-man is the H-
man, the H-man has been destroyed. This is exactly the position
taken by a professor of philosophy I happen to know. This makes the
probability questions trivial: What is the probability the M-man
sees Moscow? It's 1. The difference between John and me is that I
accepted the thought experiment as a model of Everett's wave
function splitting in order to see where it would lead.
If you advocate such position (as the professor of philosophy you
happen to know), then you can't say *you* survive such duplication
experiment (because as you said, you the H-man is destroyed)... but
John does not advocate such position as he acknowledge he would
survive and mistakenly attribute after the fact probability (which
is nonsense), as such his position is inconsistent, also by the
protocol the "you" is not ambiguous, you is the everyday feeling of
being you (and if it is ambiguous in the experiment, then it is
ambiguous in everyday life),
Exactly.
That is also disambiguated by the definition of the first and third
person povs in the teleportation setting.
and as it is meaningful to ask in an everett world such a question,
it is meaningful with computationalism and duplication.
Yes.
Also, Brent said already once that he is OK up to step seven, so he
has seen where the problem is, and his post is a bit astonishing.
Are there other people which makes sense of Clark's post on step 3?
Are there people having problems with any other steps between 0 and 7?
Step 8 is more subtle, as it handles a more subtle type of refutation
(à-la Peter Jones, for those who read his posts). We can also come
back on this, but only if the steps 1-7 are well digested, for not
mixing different difficulties).
