Nothing!"

Or Frank Wilczek (Nobel prize 2004): "The reason that there is Something rather than Nothing is that Nothing is unstable."

In fact his is the /only/ satisfactory answer to that question I've ever come across, which is quite an achievement, imho, even if it proves to be wrong.
