Just to muddy the waters further, here is a study from from Geoscience, courtesy, Physorg. I could re-name the article Localized Global heating. It kicks up my suspicion, that soot might be the biggest culprit for the heat around Indonesia? This has been proposed by some climate scientists, and because Indonesia is a major polluter, worse than the US and Europe combined (throw in Malaysia), the pollution could be causing trouble-but its not global(yet). If this guess is correct, If the Indonesians switch more to natural gas (methane burned in turbines) plus wind and solar, (once storage becomes real) then we could have some remediation. Thus, a panic to make supplication to out holy rulers would be avoided, assuming anyone considers management by the political elites, less than desirable.
