From: everything-list@googlegroups.com [mailto:everything-list@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of LizR I agree with Chris, even though on many occasions (and indeed on this very forum) I've dismissed the Apollo missions as a "huge, wasteful and dangerous publicity stunt with limited scientific worth." <http://www.booksfromfinland.fi/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Page0001-e1287665798348-590x328.jpg> "Hooray! We're going to Mars!" LOL There is also the argument that it would be wise to spread the seed of Earth life – the only life that exists, as far as we know – to other locales as an insurance policy, should catastrophe strike this world. Eventually to Alpha Centauri and places beyond I dream (someday hopefully). Take what has been learned from attempts such as Biosphere II and other closed loop experiments and continue learning until we figure out all the microorganism foundational aspects of a living system and begin to learn the art of life systems transplantation from planet to planet… moon to moon, la grange point, to la grange point – in biospheres made from nearby (in terms of delta V) material.
