I agree with Chris, even though on many occasions (and indeed on this very 
forum) I've dismissed the Apollo missions as a "huge, wasteful and dangerous 
publicity stunt with limited scientific worth."

There is also the argument that it would be wise to spread the seed of Earth 
life – the only life that exists, as far as we know – to other locales as an 
insurance policy, should catastrophe strike this world. Eventually to Alpha 
Centauri and places beyond I dream (someday hopefully).  

Take what has been learned from attempts such as Biosphere II and other closed 
loop experiments and continue learning until we figure out all the 
microorganism foundational aspects of a living system and begin to learn the 
art of life systems transplantation from planet to planet… moon to moon, la 
grange point, to la grange point – in biospheres made from nearby (in terms of 
delta V) material.
