Yes, but I did qualify it in a subsequent email with "unless you can think of a worse effect [than oblivion] of murder".

Why should it have to be worse than oblivion. Any bad effect that outweighs the good effect should be enough to make murder wrong. Of course the reason society makes murder wrong is that people don't like being killed, even if they were indifferent about being dead.
