I have no idea how you could combine them unless some form of quantum erasure took place perhaps.

I think it's implicit that the duplication and merger are all classical processes. I see no problem in storing in a computer memories of Moscow@date1 and memories of Washington@date1 or of having those memories in the same brain. But brains and AIs tend to dislike self-contradiction (which is why Bruno is always interviewing *consistent* machines). So when it comes to using those memories, say to answer a question, I think the brain and the AI will finesse the contradiction and not remember them both correctly.

PS Isn't this like David Deutsch's "quantum AI" test of the MWI?

No, because Deustch's AI can only be asked the analog of "Did you form memories of being two places at the same time." To which it would answer, "Yes." But it can't recall the memories.

If you really want it to be like the MWI explanation of the 2 slit

experiment a bit.

The Helsinki Man steps into the machine and a copy ends up in Moscow and
another is
sent to Washington, the Helsinki Man is then instantly destroyed. The 2 men
spend a
hour investigating their cities and then they both step into a slightly

makes a

identical
to the old one except that he has vivid memories of being in both Moscow and
    Washington during the previous hour.

Quite aside from Bruno's meta-physics, that's probably impossible. The
physical
instantiation of human memory will probably allow memories of being
Washington at a
certain time and also memories of being in Moscow at that same time. But I
think
Dennett's competing module model is close enough to being true that the
reconstituted Helsinki-man would not be able to recall contrary memories.
He will
either suppress some or confabulate the time order to make them consistent.

If you then asked him if he ended up going to Washington or Moscow the only
answer
    he could give is both.
