But you are the one who notes that "physical" is not very sharply defined.  If you take Dr. Johnson's view, you can't kick it and have it kick back.  It acts very strangely compared to water and sound waves.  If you provide a photosensitive screen or a detector in front of it, it will only act at one point, like a particle.
