Many thanks, colleagues, for your helpful and detailed replies. This is a good group of folks.

I upped the cost from a 1 to a 2, recalculated the routing table, waited ten minutes (it's a really small site - only 100 mailboxes), sent mail, still routed through the IMC. So, I bounced the SMTP service, hit the recalculate routing button, waited another ten minutes, same thing. Maybe I should have bumped it up to a higher cost? Or, maybe, as Chris said: > There is a bit of a disconnect in costing and > routing while in mixed mode which makes sense sort of if you've had > enough to drink. And, maybe that's why nothing changed? Chris also wrote: > Holy crap! A technical question which actually provides background and > demonstrable context. Are you sure you are on the right list? <grin> I'm used to the PMDF list (mainframe email program we use for our smart host). They won't even reply unless you give all details of your VMS version, PMDF version, etc. I've fallen into the habit! > What you are seeing is expected (well, expected by Exchange) behavior. And, we have 4 sites, but no site connectors, because nobody wanted to play nice with anybody else, or see their GAL, etc. Political reasons. So, even the Exchange 2003 installation so far only knows about one site, errr, administrative group. > You might be thinking... well, I'll just stop the 5.5 IMS and see what > happens. Kinda like stopping a channel on my mainframe MTA. > When you're ready for > Exchange 2000 to > handle the routing take a leap of faith and remove the IMS > from your 5.5 > box(es). Things should route just fine. I'm assuming you mean after I move everybody onto the Exchange 2003 box, and I'm ready to decommission the 5.5 box. Or, maybe (hope springs eternal), you mean when I'm happy with my Exchange 2003 server, backups are verified and scheduled, I have some mailboxes moved and working, I can delete the 5.5 IMS, and the new box will take over the old box's routing, too, as well as its own? Or is that just wishful thinking? Many thanks again, guys, for the help. I actually did attend class and everything, and cracked open a few books I bought, etc. But it's nice to get good info from the folks who've been there! ==================================== Larry Wahlers, Systems Specialist Concordia Technologies The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchange&text_mode=&lang=english To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
