OK, thought you folks might be interested in the final resolution. The
original problem was that our Help Desk program called HEAT was having
issues with sending escalation email messages to folks. The problem wasn't
in Exchange at all, but in the cached bogus address in HEAT for those
messages, which we'd been messing with weeks ago. So, deleting the mailbox
and readding it didn't solve the problem at all.

Oh, well. Live and learn.
