OK, I understand - I see that, but most often on clients I connect to
Exchange using RPC/HTTP. I have begun to treat it as fairly normal,
even when I see it on my local Outlook clients when directly connected.
I agree with some of the other comments about possible GC slowness or
even DNS anomalies. If they last for no longer than a few seconds, I
frankly wouldn't lose too much sleep. You could start capturing packets
and maybe get a better idea, but unless it becomes a serious problem,
not sure it's worth the effort.

BTW, O2K3 in cached mode makes this even less of an issue.

David

No, that is not what I am referring to. I am talking about the Outlook
icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. When you are online it
will say next to it that "All folders are up to date" sometimes for
whatever reason it loses connection the exchange server and the status
changes to "offline, connection to exchange server has been lost" then a
few seconds later it will say "your connection has been restored". Some
clients report this happening up to 15 times a day while others never
experience a problem.

If you mean the 'balloon' that pops up, I like to disable all balloon
tips -- it's a registry hack, albeit a fairly simple one. Check out
KB307729 at http://support.microsoft.com. There will still be a little
bitty icon doing the same thing down in the corner of Outlook but it
shouldn't bother most users.

I have seen the same thing on our network. We are running Outlook 2003
in cached mode and many, not all of our users complain that they have
"lost connection to exchange server" and then quickly after that they
have a message that says "your exchange connection has been restored".
Our server isn't going up and down and doesn't appear to have any
performance issues. I have personally never experienced this but have
witnessed it on other client computers. Any ideas?

All,

I have users complaining all the time about the little bubble that pops
up in the bottom right hand corner of their Outlook. We get those things
every once in a while. What causes this besides network issues? It's
not like our network goes up and down all the time. How do you prevent
these from popping up? And is there a way to disable this within
Outlook 2003?

Thank you,

John B.
