It didn't do this... I had to do the steps I listed to open it. I was going to do the PST route, but didn't want the hassle as I didn't expect what I was doing to be an issue. I know I could also add mailbox to profile... but I went the route I did. Just didn't expect it to do what it was doing. Also in the end I need to disable the original users AD account... so a new question... can the mailbox still be accessed by the new manager if I disable the old account? I think it can.
