I couldn't possibly be construed as tech-savvy - but have you tried downloading VLC? It's free on the Internet (http://www.videolan.org/ vlc/) and though I am a Mac user, the last time I checked it's Windows friendly. Give it a go as I use it myself to watch DVDs regardless of region on my MacBook. It's also great to watch just about any file or local DVD format (regardless of where or from whom you have purchased said disc, this being Russia after all). The pre-installed DVD player in my MacBook has a similar limitation on the amount of times you can switch between regions so I try to minimize it this way with great results.

If Windows Media overrides VLCs flexibility then... well I dunno. However, it's a free possibility...

Good luck!

Hi, computer-savvy, technical-minded Expatniki. I have a Russian- purchased computer and licenced Russian Microsoft Windows (XP). In the past I could watch either Russian region or US region DVD discs by going into Windows Media Player and switching the region. The region chosen in that program determined the region for the other media programs I have. Only today I switched and then noticed that I have "used up my number of changes." That is, Windows Media Player lets you switch back and forth X number of times and then -- that's it. Since Windows Media Player seems to control the other media programs, I'm now locked in one region. (BTW, "0" was not an option for region -- you had to pick a country.)

Anyone solved this problem?
Thanks
