Absolutely do NOT use MaxDrive with Linux I have helped three people who have had
conflict troubles with MaxDrive and Linux, and a weak chipset doesn't help the
prospects at all.
You do not need it, nor does your BIOS need to see the rest of your drive
Just make sure you get a 10-20M /boot partition into that first area--the first 1024
cylinders--the part your BIOS can see.
Then Loadlin or LILO will work
Once you get to /boot, Linux will be able to see the rest of your drive, and your
PCChips conceived Chipset can do whatever it wants.
The quality of the Chipsets from PCChips has improved. Maybe someday soon the
quality of the boards will as well.
If there are any BIOS patches (and there are for many of the boards and chipsets),
they can be found at http://www.pcchips.com
