Won't let you, info hdparm?, set the dma flag 'd1'?, or put
your setting in rc.local?
It's important that you read 'info hdparm' as some settings can
be dangerous. The 'info' clearly says what the various switches
do and what ones should be used with caution. Also, as in my example
hdparm line, some drives have recommended settings, eg., 'info'
suggested a low setting for the 'm' switch for my WD HDD's.
It might help if you posted your results for:
'hdparm -i /dev/hd<your drive letter>'
'hdparm -v /dev/hd<your drive letter>'
