here ya go............LOL

[root@localhost /root]# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/cdrom as a block device
       (maybe `insmod driver'?)

[root@localhost /root]# cat /proc/modules
keybdev 1832 0 (unused)
usbkbd 2788 0 (unused)
input 3104 0 [keybdev usbkbd]
usb-storage 12324 0 (autoclean) (unused)
usb-ohci 14952 0 (unused)
usbcore 48648 0 [usbkbd usb-storage usb-ohci]
autofs 9540 1 (autoclean)
irda 84353 1
rtl8139 11812 1 (autoclean)
emu10k1 50948 0
soundcore 3748 4 [emu10k1]
nls_cp437 3912 4 (autoclean)
vfat 11164 2 (autoclean)
fat 32864 2 (autoclean) [vfat]

[root@localhost /root]# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
/dev/cdrom: Input/output error
mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: No medium found

that was after the modprobe ide-scsi

and the drive is again locked and running....at this point I have to
completely power down and do a cold boot or the cdrw will not be recognized
by the bios on a warm boot...and yes there is a cdrom in the drive.
