I recently switched internet providers, and as a consequence had to update
the network info on my Mandrake 6.1 (kernel 2.2.17, SMP) box I use as a
firewall/ ip masq server. What I'm seeing is a log message in
/var/log/messages that occurs every few minutes (the interval is not
precise), which is a denied packet from 127.0.0.1:2301 to
255.255.255.255:2301. Unfortunately I don't have the exact error in front of
me (not at the machine and I can't find my written example). I did a bit of
digging on the net and the only references I could find to port 2301 is to a
Compaq service for it's NT servers. Since this problem occurs even when my
Windows box is powered down, I don't think that is the culprit.

Another problem I'm having (possibly related?) is that when I restart the
machine, I can connect to it with ping, HTTP, SSH, etc for a period of time
(longer than a few minutes, less than 12 hrs), after which the machine does
not seem to exist at all on the net. I'm not seeing anything that looks
suspicious in /var/log/messages or secure.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks.

-Pete
