Well, every Kppp version I've ever used since Mdk 6.0, clk on the
docked modem lights on the panel and a details/disconnect dialog box
pops up that also shows the connection speed. Also you can check the
'show log' box on Kppp and the debug window will show the connect speed
briefly before it diappears.
Sort'a, that's the connection handshake speed with the ISP. True
connection speeds are what you can download at, from the site you're
downloading from. A decent sustained rate for 28,8 is 3.3K/sec, for
31,2 - 3.6K/sec ....if you don't have too many stalls. If you really
want to monitor the connection speed, click on the panel lights (as
above) and choose 'details' You'll see a running avg and a graph of
the connection.
Also many download butlers (my favorite is nt-1.19-1mdk.i586.rpm,
it's in /contrib/) show the download rate/avg/and time over multiple
downloads. NT shows this and a graph, plus it's the simplest damn best
workin downloader i've ever used. Supports retries and resumes. 'Bout
the only configuration it needs is to tell it what dir you want the
dl'd files put in ;)
