Dear Ron,
html is of course nice 2 see and maybe look professional but please consider that not everyone on this list has broadband, and goes on with 56Kbps modems. So, that's more than a cosmetic or geek or old fashion thing... It involves respect for those who can be eased by the lesser size of text messages!

Not only that, but html email can subject you to very nasty things (yes, even under Linux). At the very least one could put an invisible gif to know if and when you read the message (important for a spammer to know that an address is active). For an account of what could happen reading html email see <http://seguridad.internautas.org/correoe1.php> (in spanish).
Not to speak of the damage that executing "active" content could do (not so dangerous under Linux as under windows but then even under Linux a binary plugin -- e.g. flash -- could do nasty things).
Luckily now mozilla has an option to discard all html from email.

Bye
