The other thing to consider is that we were told that the 494 and the 493 were
equal though testing at the same weight. Things may have been similar at
Runoffs, but the reported testing was reported as equal. Same times at Runoffs
with two weights does not imply dissimilar times at one weight.

Where the 493 supposedly has more torque did not show benefit in solo at
nationals last year where 494s were at the top of the podium.

Jay, can you give us a run-down on who was running 494 and 493 engines at the
Runoffs? I have no way of knowing who ran which engine. Thanks! Stan

I think it is important to look at the qualifying times from the Runoffs
last year & you will see that the 493 with the added 50 lbs is absolutely
equal to the 494. Admittedly Brian Novak turned the fastest race lap by
less than .1 seconds with a 494, but that "super trick" car is now illegal.
There were several 493s within .1 or .2 seconds in both qualifying & the
race. This indicates to me that the 493 with 50 lbs & the 494 are extremely
close from a competitive perspective.
