Bruce, thanks for the updates, this is EXACTLY what I have been looking at. There's absolutely no reason why these cars can not be built here for similar prices. Lee builds excellent quality cars, they are probably worth the money, but I think that F1000 class, could have a similar car, maybe with less technology and gizmo's, for a much more reasonable price. He paid around $22K (that's USD) for his car new and ready-to-race. The 600cc cars are a spec series and all have the Jedi chassis. The 750cc cars are single seaters but a combination of front and mid-engined sports racers. In all cases the rules are written to restrict performance upgrades to the motorcycle engines. About the only upgrades allowable are those which will make the engines more bullet-proof. A friend in Canada, A, has a Formula 4 Xpit (pronounced Speet) that uses a 750cc engine. Their rules require stock, mass produced engines. Xpit's can be special ordered for under $20K (USD) which seems economically competitive with F5. They also have wings, ARB, IRS, coil overs. Go figure. I believe the car sits on a 92 to 94 inch wheelbase and 13" wheels. They are very cool little cars indeed. I don't know why they haven't caught on. Oh yeah, F5 cars can race with the F4's in Canada. Chris Reinhardt wrote: If you look at the classes in Europe, they have several bike motor formula classes, and they prove to be the most successful. There's a 750 class, a 1 liter and I think a 1200. I believe even a Junior 600 class. As far as a threat, guys are spending close to $20k on a superkart that's light years faster than a F500 that costs about the same. Ok it's twice that for a Stohr creation, but it has to be crazy fast!!! Chris R. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It may not be a threat to F5, but may be a savior for formula racing in the end. Honestly, I find this an interesting class. I like FF/FC cars but have great issues with engine cost/availability as the class exists today. As formula cars interests grow in general, so does F5 (at least I would hope). jim ----- Original Message ---- From: Eric D Christensen To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2006 9:51:12 PM Subject: [F500] F1000 tidbits.... OK... with all the discussion about costs and car counts and the threat of F1000 taking over, I just had to share this: Stohr Cars Announces F1000 Car ________________________________________________________________ Lee Stohr Cars LLC is building a new motorcycle-engined Formula 1000 / FS class car. This new open wheel race car marks Stohrs return to it's roots as a top competitor in the Formula Ford class. Stohr Cars have won 4 straight SCCA National Championships in bike-powered D Sports Racing. This combination of experience makes us well placed to take the lead in Formula 1000. Our F1000 racing cars come standard with many of the same components that make the WF1 the dominate bike-engined sports racer in America. The Stohr F1000 will be unveiled at the SCCA Runoffs in Topeka this fall. The car can run both in the FS class, and it will meet the newly published SCCA F1000 rules for a steel tube framed, flat bottom car. See the related SCCA News Release here - www.scca.com/News/News.asp?Ref=610 Price for the first 10 Stohr F1000 cars will be guaranteed at $28,995 each. This is a rolling chassis, with Quaife differential, centerlock wheels, paddle shifter, CNC billet uprights and 'Stohr Spar'. Visit our web site at www.stohr.com for more details and progress photos over the next few months. Deposits are being taken now, please call for more information. Lee Stohr Cars LLC 503-775-1114 OK... That's $28,995 for a roller. Add tires, engine, dash and bells and whistles and you're easily looking at $35,000 to get on track. By the way, Phoenix Race Cars is also planning a F1000 chassis for next year, targeting "35,000 - $40,000" as a turn-key. Still think that F1000 is a real threat to F500? By the way... I'm not ignoring the threads about advertising and promotion ideas. I'm just busy with work right now. I figured I'd let you all hash out some ideas. ----- Eric D Christensen Proadmin, Inc.
