Marilyn came up w/a way of calibrating our EGT's that was rather unique. I still wince at the memory of her approaching with both probes powered up and her telling me that the pediatrician always insisted that rectal temps were more consistent than oral...
Seriously, where the probes are located does make a difference. If the EGT's pass some some rudimentary calibration as Phil describes, and check the nearly same to each other; they are ok. It then becomes your job to read piston tops and plugs, etc. to determine if your 1100 degrees is someone else's 1400 degrees.
