Honestly, don't you think you're standing on better ground when pushing the
safety issue if you're talking oil dampened shocks?

Formula Vee with steel wheels and bolt on junkyard suspension is perhaps the
best example of a historically low cost intentioned class. Yet they can run
whatever shocks they want. They are not even a spec shock class.
There was a giant gnashing of teeth over allowing aftermarket shocks on
stock class cars in Solo. This has come to pass. Shocks are just a
commodity item now. In some cases, the factory shocks are so good there is
litte if no imnprovement from aftermarket.
Like with personal computers, we can get better shocks for less money now
than we ever could before.
Even the low end circle track stuff is just too good for the price to make
me want to mess around with rubber springs and friction damping.
I just replaced the rear pucks inside the cannisters on my car. Fairly
cheap parts, but labor intensive to fart around with. Also had to break
down and finally buy a new bench grinder to replace my burned out one to
trim the pucks to fit.
