Remember what a hans device is made to do.. It only helps prevent basilar skull fractures. The weight of the helment acts like a fulcrum when the shoulders are tired down. Also remember that we are in open wheel cars The hans device does nothing for axial loading (getting hit on top of the head) Which will cause a brust fracture or cord compression. In karting more neck collar type devices are used to prevent axial loading so look at your car would you more likely go head first into a solid barrier or flip and have something you on top of the head.
