JV, I can't answer your questions, but if you're looking to get rid of
the 5:1 setup let me know. All I do is autox and my car has a 3.75:1 setup.

That might be a nice setup. I was thinking a 4 to 1 would be a nice compromise. Yours are close. That said, I doubt my setup would work for you without some modification. I had to massage the stuff to accommodate some other issues I had. One thing I did learn in the process was don't buy a split gear unless you absolutely have to. I did, because that was what was on the car, and I didn't know better, but I found out that that didn't work well, since no matter how hard I wrenched the things down centrifugal force made the gear halves spread under high load circumstances and as a result, the belt started jumping teeth. Too much power. This problem led to the aforementioned modifications. 8-)
